TreeTalk Plus

Tree Talk Plus (TTP) is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee, registered by the Registrar of Companies (Reg. No. 181679). It is supervised by a Board of Directors that provides strategic guidance and leadership within a framework of prudent and effective controls towards compliance with the laws and policies of Uganda, including financial practices and reporting.

Tree Talk Plus works towards shaping the minds and attitudes of communities for improved land-use practices, building resilience towards climate change catastrophes and improving the lives of ordinary people. It does this through Communication, Education, Participation and Awareness (CEPA) approach; to raise awareness on values and functions and creating an environment for pedagogical approaches that enable learning.

Tree Talk Plus aims to:

1.To advocate against any form of environmental abuse and encourage communities to engage in ecosystem restoration actions,
2.To advocate for good governance of environment and natural resources through available spaces at national and sub-national levels,
3.Undertake studies and review of the policy, legal, institutional frameworks relating to governance of natural resources,
4.Promote information, education, communication and demonstration of best practices in environment and natural resources management,
5.Engage the media to be able to create and project a positive image of the environment and natural resources sector.
6.Collaborate with like-minded institutions to support government efforts in delivering climate-smart development to communities.
7.Promoting Integrated Water Resources Management by undertaking development works in the water and sanitation sector.
8.Establishing model enterprises in natural resource management demonstrating the wise use of environment resources and natural resources.

Vision statement – is a nature-based community with improved quality of life.

Mission statement – is to promote ecologically sound land use, water resources and natural resource management through green enterprises for improved livelihoods.

This will be achieved through:

1.Initiating natural resources management projects aimed at alleviating poverty, encouraging climate-smart development, addressing unemployment and social deviations.
2.Undertaking communication, education and public awareness in sectors such as agriculture, forestry, water, land management, wetland management, energy and climate change among others.
3.Promoting Integrated Water Resources Management as an integral component of land resources management.
4. Advocating for good governance in environment and natural resources sector.
5.Establishing model farms as demonstrations for the wise use of natural resources.

ERONet Uganda

Enabling Rural Opportunity Network (ERONet) is a women-centered, community-based organization operating in the area of Northern Uganda that borders South Sudan. ERONet’s work encompasses local communities as well as displaced person camps. ERONet was founded in 2001 by a group of women in Kitgum and Lamwo Districts who were widowed, displaced and disenfranchised by the ongoing civil war between the LRA and the Uganda Government.
ERONet expands the scope of work to address the significant ongoing impact on local residents of trans border, ethnically driven conflict in South Sudan. Uganda Forestry Association (UFA)

Government of Uganda, in 1998 adopted a policy to restructure many government departments including the Forestry Department.
It recognized an urgent need for a change in the policy, legal framework and institutions controlling forestry in the country.
There was a sense of crisis about the state of the country’s forests and a particular outcry at the state of the forest reserves, in the hands of the Forestry Department.
The sensitization Forestry Department was no longer appropriate for the task and therefore a need for it to be divested. It was decided that a new institutional arrangement was needed hence the Forestry Inspection Division, the National Forestry Authority and the District Forestry Services were set up.
NFA has a mandate of managing 506 Central Forest Reserves (CFR’s) totaling to 1,262,090 ha of the land cover, with objectives of improving management of the CFRs, expanding partnership arrangements, supplying forest and non-forest products and services and ensuring organizational stability.

Reproductive Health Uganda

RHU is a volunteer owned and led organisation that started work in Uganda in 1957.

Rights 4 Her Uganda

RIGHTS 4 HER is an initiative that was formed in 2016 to advocate and champion access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for closeted Lesbian, Bisexual, Intersex and Queer persons both in urban and rural areas.
It is a safe space where closeted LBQI persons speak up against prejudice and tackle what it really means to stay in the closet.
Cathy (not real names) who heads this initiative spoke to Kuchu Times about the mission of RIGHTS 4 HER and what they hope to achieve in the forth coming years. Rights 4 Her is an initiative that is focusing on closeted LBQI persons in Uganda; we want to create awareness about the needs of this category of people in the gender and sexual minority movement.
This is not to say the mainstream LGBTI movement is not helping us but many people in the closet fear to freely associate themselves with the movement/community. We realized that there was a need to come up with a support group that was about us and prioritized our needs.
We work closely with already established and pioneer LGBTI organisations for linkages and guidance on how to reach out to more closeted LBQI persons in Uganda. I do believe there are more closeted persons, perhaps even more than those that are already out.

Osukuru United Women Network (OUWN)

Osukuru United Women’s Network provides community education on climate change, tree planting with seedlings and nursery beds, manufacture of Lorena cookstoves and biomass briquettes.
It targets those most exposed to climate change in Uganda: training is primarily for women, but men are also included. Main objectives are to reduce CO2 emissions and indoor air pollution, improve women’s and children’s health, food security, and household income.
The community (38,000 inhabitants) benefited from the increased food production as a result of reforestation. The initiative creates entrepreneurship opportunities and greater autonomy for women.
